permanent cosmetic enhancement

Permanent cosmetic enhancement is a fascinating, innovative and successful treatment used to enhance your eyes, brows, lips and cheeks with a soft, natural finish that has the appearance of perfectly applied makeup. This remarkable effect is achieved, in clinical conditions, by infusing hypoallergenic pigments into the dermal layer of the skin, where they remain permanently but then gradually fade over time.

Permanent cosmetics offer a wonderful alternative to the daily ritual of applying make-up. Also known as permanent makeup, micro pigmentation, and semi-permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing, the results can be as natural and understated or as dramatic as you wish, creating a long lasting look to enhance your appearance.

The benefits of permanent cosmetics are being discovered by all manner of people. Whether you are a busy professional on the go, a sporty outdoor type, whether you suffer from makeup allergies, weather you have poor eyesight or unsteady hands, or simply want to look good 24/7, you could be the perfect candidate for permanent cosmetic enhancements.

Many women suffer from "less than desirable" eyebrows, whether due to over-tweezing, waxing, or medical issues such as cancer or alopecia. In addition, many women can’t objectively draw on an appropriate eyebrow that will ultimately enhance their face and bone structure. If you currently use an eyebrow pencil, you will benefit from a permanent brow enhancement.

My aim is to recreate a brow with natural look that does not look artificial or harsh. To do this, the eyebrows are perfectly placed through a series of symmetrical measurements. A flattering brow shape is then created, with a wide array of hues and tones to suit your skin and hair colours. This includes: a powdered effect or 3 dimensional hair stroke technique, which mimics the actual hair.

Having a professionally crafted permanent brow will enhance your features. This will result in a youthful appearance and emphasis your eyes. This result has brought a life changing experience to those who have undergone the procedure.

Using eyeliner enhancement can achieve both a subtle to dramatic look to the eyes. The liner is applied to the upper and lower eyelash margins to provide you with a fuller look.

Some people desire a subtle natural lash enhancement to give a fresh awake look that puts the sparkle back into the eyes. Others desire a more dramatic makeup look which can then and beautifully define the eyes. Both can easily be created and the choice is yours.

The eyeliner enhancement procedure is also terrific for people with allergies to makeup, who are athletic, work late hours or who have poor vision.

Lash enhancement uses minimal, subtle colouring between the lashes so that it doesn't even look like you're wearing makeup. Your lashes however, appear thicker and your eyes are more defined and striking.

Many ladies find it inconvenient to constantly have to reapply lipstick to their lips to add definition or fullness. Permanent cosmetic enhancement of the lips can be wonderful on many levels. The application of this procedure covers both lip-fill and lip liner.

Precise design techniques can have a stunning anti-aging effect. Over time, sun damage, medical conditions, hormonal changes, and tissue trauma all contribute to loss of definition and natural colour. The lips then begin to appear thinner, irregular, and faded. The lips take a lot of wear and tear and permanent cosmetic enhancement can recreate lips that will contribute to a more youthful appearance.

Lip Liner enhancement can give the appearance of a more defined lip or even-out an asymmetrical lip border. The vermilion border, or lip line, can also be tattooed slightly outside the border to give the appearance of larger, poutier lips. Generally this procedure is done in the cases where there is a thinning, irregular or scarred lip line. This procedure is also excellent for bleeding lips.

Other procedures like full lip colour / blushing or a simple outline to define them can easily be created. The advantages, of this, are that there's no smudging or smearing, and that you're always fresh and ready to go. All you need is a clear gloss to accentuate the lip enhancement.

An unwanted shape or colour (grey / blue brows, orange brows or purple brows) can be corrected or minimized. Brows that have faded to an unnatural shade can be refreshed and made to look more flattering.

Collagen Induction Therapy utilizing the Dermapen Fractional microneedling device provides unparalleled collagen production. This unique microneedling device creates new collagen below the skin by (1) triggering the release of the growth factors for new epidermal growth (2) stimulating production of collagen and elastin for firm tight skin and (3) tissue remodeling to remove or reduce discolorations, fine lines and wrinkles and scarring. 4-6 treatments in 3-4 week intervals are recommended.

The Dermapen fractional micro-needling device has a unique spring-loaded disposable needle tip that uses an automated, vibrating stamp-like motion that enhances results while offering a more controlled and safer method of treatment than other micro-needling devices, all while causing less epidermal damage. The automated needling motion minimizes pain and discomfort, while increasing the effectiveness of treatments by promoting an even absorption of topicals into the skin. Dermapen offers exceptional results, is easy to use and has better precision and control than leading alternatives, all at a fraction of the cost.

The Collagen Induction Therapy treatment can provide drastic results in improving the appearance of keloid, surgical and acne scars, minimizing pore size, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and providing skin tightening, lifting and rejevenation. The micro needles of the Dermapen® create new collagen and elastin to be generated and deposited called collagenesis, however the added benefit of new capillary growth is also a result which can improve blood supply to the area which helps create healthier existing skin as well as provide a healthy foundation for the new skin. The physical nature of “skin-needling” breaks up this fibrous and uneven scar tissue and stimulates the growth of new tissue. Currently there are ablative and non-ablative treatments offered which can damage the epidermis and evaporate the skin leading to thinner epidermis problems. The Dermapen® keeps the epidermis integrity fully intact while treating the area which quickens healing time and causes less pain.

You will look as though you have a moderate to severe sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This is normal and will subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day or 24 hours. Your practitioner will prescribe a Dermapen approved post-procedure skincare.

speciality needs - medical micro-pigmentation

Some clients have speciality needs and interests beyond the standard eyebrows, eyeliner and lip colouration. Medical micro-pigmentation is best suited for scar camouflage and regimentation of vitiligo.

If you have a scar of any type (surgery, accident, etc) the lighter coloured scars can be camouflaged long term using advanced medical tattooing treatments - during which skin coloured pigments are infused into the scar tissue to minimise its appearance.

For optimum results scars should be at least one year old and should be paler in colour than the surrounding skin.

Medical tattooing is not a suitable solution for all scarring. Notably if scars are hyper-pigmented (dark in colour); are noticeably raised or sunken; or have an uneven texture the treatment may be ineffective as these scar types have poor pigment retention capabilities. Therefore not all scar tissue, is suitable for treatment

The most suitable scars to treat with medical tattooing are those that are the result of a clean cut, especially if the scars are the result of surgery - for example a facelift or breast remodelling.

Many women opt for breast reconstruction after mastectomy and as part of this process choose to have the nipple and areola (the pigmented area surrounding the nipple) created to complete the breast reconstruction.

The thought of further surgery to reconstruct the nipple and areola, for some, is too much to contemplate and they opt for cosmetic tattooing as an alternative method of creating a realistic looking result.

Scar Camouflage After Breast Surgery
To improve the appearance of post-surgical scarring around the circumference of the areola due to breast reduction or breast uplift surgery, custom matched pigments are infused through the areola outward into the scar tissue to camouflage the scar.

Aesthetic Appearance For men and women who have areolas that are too small, asymmetrical and too pale or without definition cosmetic tattooing can achieve a balanced shape, even colouring and clarity.

What is vitiligo?

Vitiligo is a chronic skin disease that causes loss of pigment, due to a deficiency in the melanocytes (pigment producing cells) resulting in irregular pale patches of skin. The precise cause of vitiligo is complex and not fully understood. There is some evidence suggesting it is caused by a combination of auto-immune, genetic, and environmental factors.

Vitiligo is successfully camouflaged using medical tattooing treatment. The results are accomplished by tattooing skin colour pigments into the hypo-pigmented skin (skin lacking colour) - diminishing the appearance of the Vitiligo.

Only Vitiligo that has been in remission for 1 year can be treated with medical tattoo techniques. The disturbance of an unstable Vitiligo site can stimulate the site to spread or new sites to establish in other areas.

Extremely large areas of Vitiligo are not possible to camouflage since the discomfort, commitment and expense would make the programme too difficult for the client.

During the consultation, custom blends of pigment are created and then 2-3 microscopic tests are carried out on areas of the Vitiligo site using the medical tattoo technique.

Prior to the medical tattooing process topical anaesthetics are applied to the skin to reduce the prickling sensation generated during the procedure.

Each pigment infusion session normally takes 60 minutes and will require multiple treatment sessions for larger areas.

Cosmetic tattoo is the perfect answer for hair loss irregularities due to:

  • Scars from injury or surgery
  • Scars formed from donor sites in hair transplant surgery
  • Hair loss or thinning hair in females especially in the hairline or the crown of the scalp
  • Hair loss due to Trichotillomania

Permanent Cosmetic tattoo hair replacement achieves the look of natural hair growth. It is achieved by placing micro points of pigment into the skin to create a shadow of colour that mimics the density of natural hair growth. The technique can be used to replace hair on the scalp, the beard, the moustache and the pubic region.

Note: Cosmetic tattoo hair replacement is not suitable for male pattern hair loss as the commitment and expense would make the programme too difficult.

Trichotillomania is a medical condition in which people compulsively pull out their hair, usually from their scalp, their eyebrows and their eyelashes.

The ‘pulling out’ of hair associated with Trichotillomania in many cases is a coping response to stress. If the repeated removal of the hair stops early enough then the hair loss that results will reverse. Most people with Trichotillomania however, continue to pull out their hair and eventually its absence becomes permanent.

Cosmetic tattoo - a versatile solution

The results of Trichotillomania can leave the sufferer feeling self-conscious and with low self esteem. Cosmetic tattoo can provide long term camouflage for those suffering with Trichotillomania by creating the optical illusion of hair growth where there is none.

The importance of aftercare should not be overlooked.

Most healing takes place within 7 - 10 days. Immediately after the treatment there may be a very small amount of blood and lymphatic fluid so that the area treated resembles a graze. Specialize imported healing balms are used as a moisturiser and barrier. It is important to keep the area clean and, after 2 - 3 days, application of healing balm can cease. As the area dries out, tiny scabs will form. These scabs must be protected at all times until they fall off naturally during the healing process. If the scabs are picked or knocked off prematurely, they will take pigment with them which may give rise to a slightly patchy result.

A colour top-up procedure or booster is given as a matter of course after 4 - 6 weeks.

Micro-pigmentation is a two-step process.
